Virupaksha temple built in the 7th century CE has a dark chamber with a slit on the wall. The sunrays, no matter where the earth rotates or revolves, pass through the slit which causes an upside-down shadow of the gopura on the wall exactly 200 metres away in another building; a kind of pinhole-camera effect on stone. Not more or lesser than 200 metres. My fascination with the temples in Hampi, as a non-beleiver is with the architectural excellence and scientific accuracies prevailing in such ancient times. Incorporating a pinhole effect in a structure. What an architectural wonder! More Human than Divine! It's again, just my opinion!
